Working with Disability

"I called someone who introduce people to work at Coles and when he got to know that I have an issue of walking fast and standing for longer hours due to an accident I faced earlier, he said that he would not be able to offer me the job". That was something I heard from one of my closer friends where I felt it is so unfair because he got some disability with himself.

So will get to know little bit about disability. Disability can be defined as a physical or mental condition that that makes it difficult, limits or prevents a person from engaging in certain activities same as a person with no disability.

There are different types of disability:

        •  Vision Impairment
        •  Deaf or hard of hearing
        •  Mental health conditions
        •  Intellectual disability
        •  Acquired brain injury
        •  Autism spectrum disorder
        •  Physical disability

According to the victorian disability act 2006, a person cannot be discriminated against or treated unfairly because that person got some disability. Each human being has the right to work in a company if they fulfill the job requirements where being disable should not be an issue for them to perform the task with some arrangements. For an example, if some person is using a wheelchair the workplace can make arrangements to facilitate that person to get into office without any difficulty. By accepting disability in the society we are making their lives happier and a better place.
